Former US President Donald Trump is seeking retribution for his 2020 election defeat to Joe Biden, the incumbent president, not in a polling station, but in a boxing ring.

During a promotional event Thursday for an upcoming bout between the two legendary pugilists – Evander Holyfield, 58, and Vitor Belfort, 44 –Trump, 75, expressed his wish to face Biden in the ring.

Unlike his predecessors George Bush and Barack Obama, Trump does not plan to attend a memorial or meet with the victims of 9/11 attacks this week – the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Instead, the former US president, along with his eldest son Donald John Trump Jr., will be providing ringside commentary for a boxing match on Thursday at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

At a promotional event on Thursday, Trump said his “easiest fight” would be against Biden, when asked who he would like to challenge for a boxing match.

“Well, if I had to pick somebody in the world—not only a professional boxer, because I’ll take a pass on professional boxers. That would be a very dangerous subject. But if I had to box somebody? I think probably my easiest fight would be Joe Biden,” Trump remarked.

“I think he’d go down very, very quickly; very, very quickly,” he added, speaking by telephone. “He once said, ‘Oh, I’d like to take him behind the barn.’ He’d be in big trouble if he ever did. I think Biden would go down within the first few seconds.”

The former president was referring to comments his successor made in March 2018. Biden, in response to Trump’s remarks that he could sexually assault any woman he wanted, had quipped that if they were in high school he would “take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him”.

Trump, who lost to Biden in the 2020 US presidential vote, has claimed that he was defeated due to widespread electoral fraud. That claim has been rejected by Biden’s team.

The 75-year old Republican politician and entrepreneur is also a veteran of boxing game, having hosted many boxing bouts in the 1980s and 1990s at his casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to ESPN.

“I love great fighters and great fights,” he said on Thursday. “I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.”

The father-son duo has reportedly been offered a staggering fee for the cameo appearance.

Holyfield, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, came in as a replacement for Oscar De La Hoya, who tested positive for Covid-19. Belfort, 44, is a former UFC light heavyweight champion.

Trump cheered for his friend Holyfield, describing the boxing veteran as ‘tremendous’ and ‘special’.

“I have been close to Evander, I’ve been with him during some incredible times in his career and I’ve seen him enter a little bit of a bad time but he came out of it,” he stated.
